Ms. Oates is an alumna of the Picker Engineering Program at Smith College, earning her degree in the field of Engineering Science with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering. Since graduation, she has produced a manual entitled "Technology Entrepreneurship: a students’guide to entrepreneurship and technology transfer." The content of this manual is geared toward students attending Smith College in Massachusetts who are interested in technology entrepreneurship. The manual includes insight as to the otherwise difficult to identify steps and individuals that an undergraduate student should pursue in order to move a creative idea/invention forward toward realization. While at Smith, Ms. Oates was honored with an award for her presentation at the Grinspoon Foundation Entrepreneurial Initiatives Elevator Pitch competition.
